Fedora 15 “Lovelock” Beta First Look and Initial Review

f15beta

I have to admit, this isn’t really a “first look” for me, because I’ve been using Fedora since the Alpha came out both at work and on my laptop at home.
So far, I’ve had very good experiences with Fedora 15, and Gnome Shell has been a dream.

Thanks for the video. I hoped you’d cover the notification system (a message popup or any other notification). I know you use arch, but did you notice any improvement from release 14?

offtopic: How do i get the arch linux to use the gnome’s cursor theme. Even after installing all the gnome stuff, and selecting the theme in tweak tool the system still uses the old X cursor.

You know, the notification system is so unobtrusive, I completely forgot to mention it. oops. It just integrates so well!

Not sure about the Gnome cursor issue… I upgraded from 2.32 to 3.0.1, so it just kept using what I had before.

Gnome 3 seems a little weird compared to unity which i think is much more intuitive and easy to use.

personally, I have a preference for Gnome Shell, but it’s all a case of “to each his own”. That’s why we have choice! :)

i think it is the point that is what gnome wants to do and i have already used unity , as for me its a real dissappointment. No way i’ll ever use unity Gnome is the best simple and fast…

GnomeShell feels more thought through than Unity does. At least work is more fluid with GnomeShell. Especially love the appmenu with the categories on the right side.

Would love to hear your opinion or a video comparing both. Ubuntu brings out 11.04 with an unfinished desktop, since I use Linux as my mainsystem I need a finished desktop to work efficently with it.

I stay with Linux Mint, but would love to see them using GnomeShell.

    Great vids

I’m planning to do a Unity vs Gnome Shell video, still trying to work out the technical aspects of it. :P

Nice :) I would love to see the difference between both of them side by side. I haven’t had time yet to test Gnome3 properly, but from what I have seen so far between Gnome3 and Unity, there is no doubt about which one that looks best conducted.
